A TOTAL of 70 jobs are to be lost at a company in Cwmbran which manufactures and distributes steel lintels.
IG Lintels, based in Avondale Road, said the losses were due to the downturn in the construction industry and it would be reviewing proposals to relocate some departments.
The sales, finance, administration and technical scheduling functions will stay at the Cwmbran site.
The manufacturing and distribution facilities on the site will move under the proposals, said the firm.
A spokeswoman for the company that has been at the site for 50 years, said: “In light of the unprecedented downturn in the UK house-building sector and the likelihood that this will continue for possibly several years it has been necessary to undertake a strategic review of IG’s activities on its Cwmbran site, with the result that it is proposed that the manufacturing and distribution functions on the site will be relocated.
“Whatever the outcome of this review the IG management team would like to make it clear that the IG brand and product range will be maintained.”
“IG wish to reassure all of their customers that during any changes arising from this review that the Company will continue to maintain the highest levels of customer service and their existing contacts within the Company will remain unchanged.”
