THE trial of a Newport man accused of trying to abduct a child had to be adjourned yesterday, after a woman juror fell ill over the weekend.
The trial of Alan Hemmings, 64, of Watch House Parade, Pill, is expected to continue at Cardiff crown court today.
Hemmings has pleaded not guilty to attempting to abduct a 12-year-old girl whom he met in a park.
Prosecutor James Wilson has alleged that the girl was with a number of friends when she saw the defendant sitting on the ground leaning against a wall.
He spoke to the group and said: "He was looking at pretty little girls."
Mr Wilson alleged he stood up and "grabbed" the girl by her wrists, holding her for two minutes.
She told him to go away and the group ran from the scene.
When arrested he denied anything of that nature happened.
He said the girls appeared before him and nothing untoward happened.
