AN Oakdale father, fatally injured in an incident in New Inn on Monday was among four men restrained and held against their will, police reveal tonight.
Kingsley Monk, 45, of Maesygarn Road, and the three others were held for several hours before emergency services were called to Driverline247, New Road, to find the father-of-two fatally injured.
Police said they were held by a gunman, but no shots were fired.
The motive of the incident is still unclear and inquiries are ongoing into the cause of Mr Monk’s death.
A 52-year-old man from Cardiff, who was arrested by armed police at Newport train station, remains in police custody.
The three local men who were injured in the incident, aged 26, 45 and 55, have now been released from hospital.
Chief Inspector Huw Nicholas said officers carried out a search of a stretch of the A4042 between Newport and Cwmbran, looking for the handgun that was believed to have been discarded in the area.
