IT is always sad to report on a sudden death of any sort, but when a life is blown away by an act of violence it is especially tragic for everyone close to the victim.
The killing of Kingsley Monk of Oakdale in a shocking attack at his workplace in New Inn has robbed a family of a devoted husband and father, and left friends and local people stunned.
As a post mortem was taking place yesterday afternoon the exact cause of death was unknown, as was the motive for the attack. Clearly police are being very cautious as to what went on in what was initially thought to be a robbery at recruitment company Driverline 247 on the South Pontypool Industrial Estate, New Inn.
One man is in custody and it is not thought that anyone else is being sought.
But our thoughts must go to Mr Monk's wife and two sons who have had their world shattered by a sudden and devastating act of violence. Mr Monk was a popular local man who was involved in community projects and was a well-liked and keen golfer at Bargoed Golf Club.
His death makes no sense to anyone and it is pointless to speculate on possible causes until the investigations are complete and a trial is held.
