Robert Williams, of Castle Oak, Usk, has been inv ited to attend trials for the Wales Under 11 Cricket Team in preparation for the 2009 season.
Rob is in his final year at Usk Primary School and has this year captained the Usk Junior Cricket Under 11A team, who went through this season undefeated, to win the league.
Rob was born in Botswana and moved to Usk when he was two. His mother, Jackie, said, ‘He has always been sports mad an d started cricket training in Usk at the age of 4, playing his first game for the Under 11 team when he was only 6.’ Robert was also wicket keeper/batsman for the Gwent U10 team last season. Usk coach Mike Jones said, ‘Rob Williams was not only outstanding for Usk, but also for the Gwent team. His brilliant keeping skills gained us many an invaluable wicket, not to menti on his outstanding batting.’ Excited at the challenge of attending the trials for Wales, Rob is also aware of the competition he faces to gain a place. But there are many in Usk who are already tipping him for a long and successful sporting career.
