A SEARCH was still under way today for the handgun the suspect is believed to have had.
It’s thought he discarded it during his escape on the A4042 and police are continuing to search the area.
Chief Inspector Huw Nicholas said: “The search is ongoing for the handgun it’s believed the offender had during the incident. At this time we cannot be sure if it was a real or imitation handgun.
“If anyone finds anything that appears to be a handgun we would urge them not to touch it and to immediately call police to come and deal with the situation.
“Also, if anyone knows where this handgun may be they are asked to contact Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
Part of the A4042 was closed this morning as officers intensified their search.
