THE Oakdale businessman fatally injured after being held captive by a gunman in New Inn on Monday died of pressure to the neck, police revealed last night.

45-year-old Kingsley Monk of Maesygarn Road, and three of his workers at Driverline 247 were tied up for several hours and beaten at the unit on New Road before it was set on fire.

Workers at Gwent Auto Factors next door were alerted to what was going on when one of the men who had been tied up got away and stumbled into their offices.

It is belived the gunman lay in wait for the four men before they arrived at the unit at 9am.

Preliminary post mortum results reveal Mr Monk died from pressure to the neck.

Police have now released a list of items they are trying to find including a silver handgun which they believe the gunman had used during the attack.

Officers have been searching for the weapon which they believe the suspect discarded along the A4042, but has yet to be recovered.

Police are also looking for a long sleeved blue shirt, a black laptop bag and a RBS black credit card reader which they believe the suspect used during the incident.

Officers have already uncovered an iron bar from the scene and said a “substance” had been thrown over the men, but would not say whhether the substance was liquid or powder.

Police continue to question the 52-year-old man from Cardiff last night who was arrested at Newport Railway Station on Monday night in connection with the incident.
