PUPILS at a Newport primary school have gone global in a multi-cultural celebration of colourful creativity.

Aspects of culture from as far afield as Africa, Asia and the Caribbean have been explored by youngsters at Ysgol Gymraeg Casnewydd, who have made masks, traditional carnival costumes, Chines dragons, and even tried their hand at DJ-ing.

"It's been great fun and the children have been fantastic, very enthusiastic and creative, and the work they have produced reflects that," said deputy head Lorna Campbell.

"We've had lots of different people in to help us out and SEWREC (South East Wales Racial Equality Council) has been very supportive.

"It's a great way of helping the children to appreciate the traditions of people from across the world. Different classes have studied and worked on projects from different parts of the world."

The school has more than 400 pupils, and some of them will be involved in an exhibition in Cardiff early in November, to celebrate Black History Month.
