ONE of Gwent's winning paralympians opened a celebration in Cwmbran this week.
Silver medal winning Gareth Duke, 22, was the star guest at Llanderfel Court's silver anniversary party.
The Thornhill sheltered housing complex opened in 1983.
To mark the occasion the residents held an afternoon party. Mr Duke came wearing his medal and sliced open a birthday cake.
Ann Williams, 91, moved into the complex when it was first built.
She said: "I enjoyed organising social activities, but I take a back seat now and let the younger generation do it.
"I look forward to Tuesdays, where we have a meal from the luncheon club, and then a game of bingo, followed by a nice cup of tea."
Mr Duke, from Pontnewydd, came second in the 100m breaststroke in the Beijing Paralympics in September.
