A LLANMARTIN tot has completed the latest leg of his treatment against the cancer that robbed him of his sight.

At the tender age of two, Finley Ellis-Hall has spent more time in hospital than many people would spend in their life time.

He has just finished latest round of chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the University College Hospital, London, where he has been treated for his neuroblastoma.

The disease causes tumours to develop across his body and has robbed him of his sight.

It was Finley’s second round of radiotherapy at the hospital, and the family will not be able to return.

Finley was given a pioneering type of radiotherapy which targets his cancer cells alone. The drug costs £15,000 a dose, with a total of four being attempted on the toddler.

Its hoped the chemotherapy and radiotherapy he received will stop the tumour on his liver from growing, and success would mean Finley could undergo an operation to remove it.

Tests to see if the treatment has worked will be done in December. The family hopes that in a years time the cancer will be remission and they will be able to take him for optic nerve treatment in the US or China.

They are currently raising money for the trip, and believe they will have raised £90,000 once money from recent fundraising activities have been collected.

Dad Mark Ellis-Hall said the visit was the first time Finley was missing their home in Llanmartin, Newport.

“It was upsetting to know that he was stuck in hospital and that he wanted to be back,” he said.
