A tractor driver escaped injury when a light aircraft landed on his machine, killing one passenger and seriously injuring the other, paramedics said.

Emergency services were called to Seething Airfield, near Norwich, at about 1.50pm on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for the East Anglian Ambulance Service said the tractor driver was "shaken" but "unhurt".

She said one of two-seater aircraft passengers died at the scene and the other was airlifted to hospital.

"We were called to Seething Airfield at 1349, where a two-seater aircraft had crashed," the spokeswoman said.

"The male casualties both underwent resuscitation at the scene. One of them unfortunately died at the scene. The other was stable and was airlifted to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

"The plane landed on top of a tractor that was working in the airfield.

"The driver, although very shaken, was unhurt."

A spokesman for Norfolk police said officers were investigating the incident.

The airfield website said it was privately owned and run on a voluntary basis. It says it offers "low cost flying and pilot training to its membership".
