A NANTYGLO teenager who is waiting for a kidney transplant will meet Lost Prophets frontman Ian Watkins today in his first official role as Kidney Wales’ Ambassador for Young People.
Danni Tilley, 14, from Waen Heulog, Nantyglo, will meet her favourite rocker at the Children’s Kidney Centre in Cardiff.
The Brynmawr Comprehensive student was diagnosed with kidney failure 18 months ago and has to undergo 10 hours of dialysis treatment every night.
Danni has been on the waiting list for a new kidney for just over a month now and her parents Carol, 43, and David, 47, hope a new kidney will give her a new lease of life.
Mrs Tilley said her daughter was looking forward to meeting the star: “She’s so excited about meeting Ian. After everything she’s been through it’s a real boost for her.”
Mr Watkins whose mother Elaine had a kidney transplant in 2007, is the charity’s new Ambassador for Young People and will urge fans at a New Year’s Eve Concert in Cardiff University’s Great Hall to join the Organ Donor Register as part of Kidney Wales’ Donate Wales campaign.
Currently around 500 people in Wales are listed for a transplant, with the majority waiting for a new kidney.
Anyone interested in becoming a donor can visit the Kidney Wales website at www.donatewales.org or contact 0845 6060 400.
