Sessions were held over four weeks at Newport East Community Centre, in Lliswerry, with women who expressed an interest in construction with Sure Start.
At a ceremony to mark the end of the programme yesterday the women were presented with pink toolboxes.
Sarah Gorey, 21, from Newport, enjoyed the training so much she is now looking for a job in construction.
Lisa Nelmes, of the Construction Youth Trust, said: “It was a huge success. Taking part has built up the women’s confidence and given them valuable skills they can use in the home or at work.
“We’re hoping a few of the women will now get jobs in construction.”
The Construction Youth Trust are now looking for sponsors to fund future projects like this.
