A PARTIALLY-sighted woman feared she would be blinded after a bottle attack which left her scarred for life.
Jacqueline Nangle of Clos Durand, lost most of her hair and was left with a four-inch gash in her cheek after Joanne Francis, of Buchanan Close, Monmouth, attacked her with a milk bottle.
Francis was jailed for one year and eight months last week at Cardiff crown court after admitting wounding Ms Nangle on July 12.
The court heard how the women had an argument about a barking dog, which resulted in the defendant striking Ms Nangle with the bottle.
Francis, who was living in Ms Nangle's street at the time of the incident, had previous convictions for public order offences, assaulting a police officer, causing criminal damage and shoplifting.
Ms Nangle says a childhood medical condition had already left her blind in one eye and side affects of the medication affected her hair growth.
She claims that during the scuffle, the defendant also pulled out her hair.
The 42-year-old said: "She was an inch away from blinding me for life. I had to have stitches in my cheek and a crown replaced, but there’s nothing they can do for my hair.”
She said it had taken her 42 years to get her hair to shoulder length and it would take years to grow back.
Ms Nangle now feels like a “freak” and feels everyone is looking at her.
She said: “I know the scar’s healed very well and I’m lucky it has, but it’s still there and I’m still really conscious of it.”
Ms Nangle is angry at Francis’s sentence as she will be out in 10 months.
She said: “How is she going to learn? The police have two evidence bags full of my hair."
