MONMOUTH MP David Davies faced a political battle of a different kind when he stepped into the boxing ring to help raise money for charity.
Mr Davies took on Liam “The Lightning” Walker, a barrister and member of the Labour Party in London, in an amateur boxing match at a charity dinner on Friday.
Proceeds from the event will go towards youth clubs in deprived areas across the UK and the Willow Foundation - a charity which helps provide special days out for seriously ill people aged 16 to 40.
The fight, which consisted of three 90-second rounds, took place at the event held at the Hilton hotel, Park Lane, London and although referees did not pick a winner, Mr Davies said he was confident he came out of the fight on top.
He said: “The event was a huge success, I took a few blows but it was all for a very good cause.”
The amount raised at the event is still unknown but organisers hope it will be similar to last year’s total which was in the region of £30,000.
