FEEDER raised the roof of Newport Centre on Sunday night with the Welsh leg of their UK tour.
It goes without saying that for lead singer Grant Nicholas returning to Gwent is always an emotional gig, as he told the hundreds of fans who turned out to watch the band perform in the city for the first time in years.
Speakers draped in a Welsh flag, Grant spoke of how “tidy”
it was to be back in Newport where Feeder were formed.
They opened the concert with a mixture of classic Feeder tracks including the now legendary Buck Rogers, as well as We Can’t Rewind – both from their Echo Park album, as well as tracks from their latest album Silent Cry.
Halfway through the set he dedicated the song High to his “absent friend”, taken from the 1997 Polythene that firmly put them on the map.
Although there was no mention of their former drummer Jon Lee, who died in 2002, the dedication was a fitting tribute to the original band member.
Songs from their latest album included the track Fires – dedicated to their crew, due to the fact their tour bus caught fire last week, sending their equipment up in flames.
During a guitar change, the ever enthusiastic fans, who had been singing all the way through the gig, joined in with Grant to sing an impromptu version of Foo Fighters’ All My Life.
The band completed their set and then came back on to perform three more songs after hundreds of screaming fans chanted the tune that has become synonymous with Feeder fans – their track Just a Day.
Amazing, definitely a night to remember.
