A MOTOR scooter rider who became involved in a road rage incident in which he punched a motorist and broke his nose faces a prison sentence.

Darren Morgan, 35, of Oak Street, Abercarn, appeared at Cardiff crown court and admitted causing Jamie Gray actual bodily harm.

Prosecutor Claire Pickthall said that on September 6 last year Mr Gray was driving in the Abercarn area when he looked in his mirror and saw Morgan driving a motor scooter close to his vehicle.

Ms Pkcthall said: "He touched his brakes for him to go away."

Mr Gray turned into Acacia Terrace and stopped.

Morgan drove up and remonstrated with him through the open window and deliberately threw one punch breaking his nose.

He later told the police he had been acting in self defence.

Sentence was adjourned for reports and Morgan was remanded on bail.

His counsel, Meirion Davies, said that Morgan's arm had become trapped in the car window.

There was no issue, but he threw one punch and accepted losing his temper.

"The incident lasted about a minute and he didn't open the driver's door" said Mr Davies.

Judge William Gaskell warned Morgan that he could face a sentence of six to eight months.

"This was an act of violence, sometimes categorised as road rage" he said.

He said he was not a person of good character and had convictions for violence including assault and affray.

He told him to prepare himself for a period of imprisonment.
