AROUND 30 youngsters from Maesglas took part in a sponsored pyjama walk into Newport City Centre on Saturday.

The 11 to 25-year-olds from the Maesglas Community Centre were joined on their walk by Pudsey the Bear, as they aimed to raise money for Children in Need.

The group braved the cold weather and set off towards Commercial Road and the city centre to raise money from the Newport public, before returning to their Maesglas base.

Youth Development Worker at Maesglas Community Network, Danielle Aberg, 23, said: “It was the youngsters who came up with the idea to do the sponsored pyjama walk, and it is great to see them getting involved in community events like this.

“I think they were all, including myself, a bit apprehensive about walking into the city centre in just their pyjamas, but it is all for a very good cause.

“We have managed to get a lot of people to sponsor us for this event and it looks like we are going to raise around £500, which is a great effort.”
