FUNDS were raised for two Newport charities after a group of people abseiled 140 feet down a city monument.
The abseil down the Newport Civic Centre Tower on Saturday, raised funds for the Raven House Trust and St Anne’s Hospice.
These are the two chosen charities of the Mayor of Newport, councillor Noel Trigg.
The annual abseil saw a team of builders from the Caerleon firm Wentwood Construction take on the challenge.
This included team member Julian Burk who took on the challenge despite his fear of heights.
FundraisIng business manager at St Anne’s Hospice in Newport, Terry Woodsford, also signed up for Saturday morning’s abseil.
Mr Woodsford said the Hospice, an in patient specialist palliative care unit, needs to raise around £1 million worth of funds each year to keep it going.
