GWENT boxing champ Joe Calzaghe became the first person to receive the freedom of Caerphilly county borough at a ceremony on Friday night.

Joe was joined by his dad and coach Enzo and other family members including his sons Connor and Joe and girlfriend Jo-Emma Larvin.

Other guests included First Minister Rhodri Morgan.

Joe said: "I remember being in school and the careers lady asked me what I wanted to do. I told her I would be world champion and she laughed.

"Thanks to my mum and dad for allowing me to follow my dream, its been a great ride.

"I'm blown away, it's a great honour for me to be the first person to receive this award."
