EBBW Vale’s landmark Gorsedd Stones are being restored ready for the National Eisteddfod proclamation ceremony next week.
Replacement trees, a new stonewall and disabled access were added to the site opposite Ebbw Vale Sports centre.
The original iron railings have also been given a fresh coat of paint, thanks to funding from Blaenau Gwent council and the Assembly’s Heads of the Valleys Fund.
The stones were erected 50 years ago in the town to mark the visit of the National Eisteddfod in the summer of 1958.
The finishing touches were added so all is prepared for the colourful proclamation ceremony when the Gorsedd of Bards formally announce that Blaenau Gwent will host the 2010 Eisteddfod.
The official procession on June 27, featuring local school children and members of local societies, will start at Market Street and make its way through the town centre before arriving at the Gorsedd Circle at 3pm.
