NEWPORT firefighters raised £900 on Saturday with a charity car wash.
The firefighters, from Malpas Fire and Rescue Station, are fundraising to send three colleagues to America to run the New York Marathon in October.
Mike Paul, Paul Simmons and Dave Vaughan will run the marathon in full kit to raise money for the Tickled Pink Breast Cancer Campaign and the Fire Service Benevolent Fund.
They are aiming to raise more than £10,000, and their fundraising efforts are being supported by Duffryn Asda.
The firefighters used their high-powered hoses to wash down the cars, and estimate they must have washed more than 400 over the day.
Entertainment and events co-ordinator Matthew Pimm said the day had been a great success. He said: "There were so many people some had to go into town and come back.
"We all had a really good time, and are now well on the way to raising the £5,000 we want before they go to America."
