You travel to see the world, why not travel to feel the world? We created our FJR1300 sports tourer to put you totally in touch with your surroundings to maximise the thrill around every corner and magnify the beauty of every new horizon. Whether you are crossing continents at motorway speeds or making the most of picturesque backroads, the FJR1300 delivers a unique blend of exciting performance, great handling and luxurious comfort that allows you and your passenger to enjoy every sight, sound and sensation along your journey.
The Yamaha FJR1300 has the power to take you there. But that's only half the story. This most majestic sports tourer is designed for thrill-packed, long-distance touring which is why it features a journey-friendly cockpit that keeps you in the know at a single glance. As well as the easy-to-read analog speedo and tacho there's a hugely informative digital dash panel with digital clock, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, trip and fuel metres, immobiliser warning lamp and ABS warning lamp (on the FJR1300A).
Sport touring is all about enjoying the ride, but it's also about enjoying yourself when you reach the end of your riding day. Total riding comfort is vital to achieve both these goals, so we didn't hold back when we specified the FJR1300's luxurious sport touring equipment. Quite simply we wanted to build a motorcycle that would make every ride feel like a holiday for both you and your passenger.
Sometimes you may want to take it easy on the road, other times you may be in the mood to cover some serious miles, which is why the FJR1300 features an electronically adjustable windscreen. Just hit the button to raise or lower the screen for serene, unruffled cruising, whatever the speed. That's proper luxury. The FJR's seat is similarly luxurious - hugely accommodating for rider and passenger, it's superbly padded to offer a comfy, well-supported throne during the longest of hauls. Which is why you'll both be happy to press on and use the FJR's excellent fuel range - the tank holds 25 litres - to the max.
Neat detail design completes the luxury spec, like the ergonomic pillion grab rail, so your passenger can relax and admire the scenery, and the easy-to-get-at cockpit glove compartment, convenient for carrying your wallet, gloves or sunglasses. 1. Side cases: Quick to fit, easy to remove, these capacious 30-litre side cases (standard equipment with the FJR1300A) allow you to take whatever you want with you on tour. Inner liners are available separately.
2. Higher windscreen: For the taller FJR1300 rider, this extra-height, electronically adjustable, screen ensures superior long-distance comfort. 3. Footshields: For the all-weather long-distance tourer, these footshields attach easily to the FJR1300's bodywork for added protection from the elements. 4. Heated grips: These electrically heated handlebar grips, with adjustable heat settings are another boon for the all-yearround rider.
5. 39-litre top case: This large top case swallows a whole lot of gear. Also available is an inner liner to make packing and unpacking even easier. Yamaha Navigator: Also available is the easy-to-fit Yamaha weather-proof, touch screen navigator. Comes with latest version Mapsource software including the Central European country maps and additional car-kit. Mounting hardware is sold separately.
Sports performance and touring luxury Creating a motorcycle that achieves the impossible - blending sports performance with touring luxury - was a real challenge for Yamaha's engineers. We managed it by designing a machine that thrills you, keeps you relaxed and doesn't suffer from any compromises along the way. The FJR1300 is an effective fusion of horsepower, handling and easy-riding comfort that keeps you looking forward to life beyond the horizon.
The FJR1300 uses a powerhouse of an engine that will take on any winding mountain roads, whether you are heading for the Pyrenees or the Pennines. The liquid-cooled, 16-valve, four cylinder engine delivers a massive 143.5 horsepower and 13.7 kg-m of torque, more than enough to devour the miles even when you are two-up and fully loaded and you probably won't find yourself using the five-speed gearbox much either. To ensure total touring comfort, the FJR1300 engine also features twin balancer shafts for blissfully smooth riding, however far you're going.
When you get to the mountains you will revel in the FJR1300's sporty handling performance. This sports tourer handles twisting mountains roads with the grace of a sports bike because we equipped it with the chassis you'd expect on a sports bike - aluminium frame, 48 mm telescopic forks and adjustable, remote-controlled link-type monoshock rear suspension. The FJR1300 also has hugely powerful brakes - four-piston monobloc front calipers borrowed from our 2003 YZF-R1 supersport bike - and the FJR1300A features anti-lock braking for extra riding confidence.
Enjoying the sports touring experience to the full isn't only about sheer engine and chassis performance, it's also about userfriendliness and environmental friendliness too. The FJR1300 delivers on both counts, keeping you happy, unhassled and in harmony with your surroundings. The electronic fuel injection system has been perfectly mapped for across-the-range horsepower plus excellent fuel economy.
The Yamaha FJR1300 features twin exhaust mufflers for the quietest of rides because less noise means enhanced comfort and happier, less tiring long-distance touring. Both mufflers are also equipped with catalytic converters which aid the environment by minimising exhaust emissions on every ride. And you will still be smiling when you reach your destination because the FJR1300's superbly smooth, low-maintenance shaft-drive system means miles and miles of hassle-free riding.
