The Welsh Proms Cardiff Centenary Season, at St David's Hall from July 14 to 23, promises to be the highlight of this summer's musical calendar, with a magical feast of music to celebrate Cardiff's centenary and Jubilee year.
Under the baton of Owain Arwel Hughes OBE, this year's Welsh Proms Cardiff, presents 12 fabulous concerts over 10 days, with some of the UK's finest orchestras, including BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
This year also brings Wales' own legendary Bryn Terfel with Dennis O'Neill in a concert performance of Puccini's Tosca (July 21) and two internationally renowned pianists, with Peter Donohoe performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No 23 (Grand Opening Prom - July 14) and Dmitri Alexeev performing Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No 1 (Russian Romantic Prom - July 22).
For lovers of great choral works, the highlight of the season will be the performance of Elgar's monumental masterpiece, The Dream of Gerontius (July 16), with the combined forces of the Philharmonia Chorus, Cardiff Polyphonic Choir and Cardiff Ardwyn Singers plus a star-studded cast of soloists including mezzo soprano Alice Coote, tenor Wynne Evans and baritone David Kempster.
For younger music lovers, the popular Children's Prom (July 16) features special guest Dave Benson Phillips and the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra in a musical celebration of The Superheroes.
For the under fives, the Tiddly Prom returns on July 23 with stories, silliness and songs.
With world-renowned Portuguese fado singer Mariza in World Music Prom (July 17) and rising young jazz singer Gwyneth Herbert and Band in Jazz Prom (July 18) plus Lunchtime Proms, foyer entertainment and an irresistible party atmosphere, the 2005 Welsh Proms Cardiff promises to be the best ever.
