MARTYN Williams wins his 50th cap on Saturday in an international career that has spanned nine years. And the Cardiff Blues flanker admits Wales have never been so confident of upsetting the apple-cart and beating the old-enemy - England.
Williams was last night named in Mike Ruddock's starting 15 to play after passing a late fitness test.
And now Williams admits he can focus on Wales beating England for the first time in 12 years on home soil in Cardiff
He said: "The camp is bouyant and we are as confident as I've ever known a Wales side to be going into a game against England since I've been playing international rugby.
"But I remember the last two times we played England at the Millennium Stadium.
"And on both occasions England were coming here with an understrength side and we still ended up getting hammered.
"So you can't write them off and we will be wary of taking them for granted and we won't underestimate them."
It's a credit to the Wales' medical staff that they managed to get Williams fit in time for Saturday's clash.
But he has come through contact and defence sessions and was given the green light after a session w ith defence coach Clive Griffiths.
The 29-year-old joins Dafydd Jones as Wales' other flanker and Ruddock is pleased to have Williams to available after a nervous wait.
"We believe this is the best available team, with a great blend of skill, experience and, for the first time in a while, an element of continuity and stability in selection," Ruddock said.
"We believe this team, if it plays to its potential, is good enough to counter the obvious strengths of the England side and achieve a victory."
"Martyn comes into the side as a more than able replacement for Colin," said Ruddock. "His experience as a Lion, and 49 caps for Wales, will be important.
"His availability is a huge boost because it retains the blend of what we wanted in the team, in terms of an experienced openside flanker who can provide a quality link between backs and forwards as we attempt to continue development of a high-tempo game."
Dwayne Peel also gets the nod ahead of Dragons scrum-half Gareth Cooper.
And the Llanelli Scarlets star is relishing his battle with world-cup winning Matt Dawson on Saturday.
"It should be an exciting challenge," said Peel.
"He's quite noisy to play against and is lively around the breakdown so I'll have to been on my toes.
"But in a way we are very similar, I'll be looking for the quick tap and go and like to boss my forwards and I guess as a scrum-half that is part of your role.
