GWENT Police will hold their annual open day on Sunday, June 12, from 12-5pm at Police Headquarters, Croesyceiliog Cwmbran.

This ever-popular event in the Gwent summer calendar is set to eclipse last year's event, which drew a bumper crowd of nearly 7,000 visitors.

Several new attractions have been planned in addition to the comprehensive displays of police-related material.

Event organiser Ray Griffiths said: "It has been my priority to build on the success of last year's open day, by introducing a wide and varied format of displays and attractions.

"Out of 43 police forces in England and Wales there is only a handful that still hold this type of event, something I would like to see reversed.

"The police service is implementing change across a wide sphere of the services it provides, and Gwent Police are at the forefront in adopting new and high tech methods to complement more traditional policing.

"Open day gives us the opportunity of showing the public the tools and resources available to us to deliver safer communities."

There are over 80 exhibitors in all, ranging from various agencies, charity and craft stalls to children's rides and face painters.

The focal point of this year's event will be the outdoor music stage, which is being specially constructed.

A varied programme of musical entertainment has been planned including performances from the Gwent Big Band, Middle Eastern Dancers, Pontypool Brass Band, Street dancers and much, much more. Entry and parking is free so why not make a day of it. More details can be found at www.gwent.police.co.uk
