IT was revealed in court today that £75,000 was the haul alleged to have been grabbed in the Newport bank raid.
It emerged as a 22-year-old man appeared at Newport magistrates court charged with the robbery of the Halifax bank and the attempted murder of a Securicor guard on April 11.
Ryan Christopher Gamble, of Wilmcote Tower, Highgate, Birmingham, spoke only to confirm his name and address when he appeared in court this morning.
The first mention of the cash said to be involved came from prosecutor Katherine Coleman when she outlined the charges.
Gamble was arrested by officers on Monday and was last night charged with the robbery of the Halifax in Commercial Street on April 11 and the attempted murder.
No application for bail was made and Gamble was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Newport crown court on Friday alongside a 27-year-old Daniel Nelson from the Birmingham area charged earlier this month with conspiracy to commit robbery in connection with the Newport raid.
During it a 55-year-old security guard was shot in the leg.
Two women were also arrested in connection with the robbery. A 53-year-old Newport woman was released on bail pending and a 23-year-old Loughborough woman was released without charge.
