A MAN and a woman were last night charged with the murder of a man whose body was found in his Risca flat on Sunday morning.
Detectives investigating Mr Jenkins' death had until the early hours of this morning to question a 54-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman arrested in connection with his death before releasing or charging them.
They were due to appear before Caerphilly magistrates today.
The death of 45-year-old popular figure William Anthony Jenkins, known to friends as Tony or by his nickname, "Scrumpo," has shocked the Ty Sign community of Risca.
Forensic officers from Gwent Police had spent the last few days examining Mr Jenkins' flat in Holly Road, searching for possible evidence. A number of floral tributes were left by members of the local community outside the block of flats where he lived.
Friends and acquaintances paid tribute to a man described as "a real gentleman", and told of their shock at his death.
Close family friend Louise Tranter said: "Tony was the street character and so polite, well-mannered and inoffensive. His death has rocked the street."
Good friend and neighbour Shane Bates, aged 21, said: "Tony was a real gentleman and kind to everybody. He had a heart of gold."
One woman, who did not want to be named, said: "I used to see him most mornings taking his dog for a walk and we would often have a little chat. He was such a lovely man and I will miss him terribly - it was the highlight of my day to see him."
Mr Jenkins' brother, Chris Jenkins, said: "He was a lovely guy who will be sorely missed."
