POLICE have a further 36 hours to question a man and a woman arrested over the suspicious death of a man in Risca.
Police officially named the dead man as William Anthony Jenkins. The 45-year-old, who was more commonly known by his middle name, was found dead in suspicious circumstances at a flat in Holly Road, Ty Sign, on Sunday morning.
Gwent police released his name as they revealed they were granted a further 36 hours to question the 54-year-old man and 55-year-old woman arrested in connection with the incident.
The couple, believed to be from the Elm Drive block of flats nearby, are in custody in Newport Central police station.
Police now have until the early hours of tomorrow morning to charge or release them unless they successfully apply for a further extension from local magistrates.
Forensic officers from Gwent police remained at Mr Jenkins's flat throughout yesterday examining the scene. A number of floral tributes were left outside.
Police were still at the scene this morning.
In later editions of yesterday's Argus, friends and relative paid tribute to Mr Jenkins, who was described as "a real gentleman".

"Tony was the street character and so polite, well-mannered and inoffensive.
