NEWPORT County's star man, Jason Bowen, is hoping the club can cobble together the resources to fund manager John Cornforth's summer revolution.
The winger committed himself to another season at Spytty Park this week and is already looking forward to putting right the wrongs of last term but he knows his manager has his work cut out.
"John has a lot of contacts in football and hopefully the club can find the finances to bring in some more players," Bowen, who was the club's top scorer last year with 15 goals, said. "It is important that we go forward and hopefully John can put a squad together that can challenge for things.
"Fair play to the board last year, they went for it and expectation was high not only among the fans, but with the players who were here and it didn't work out how we wanted.
"I think it will be more cautious this year with the budget and that is understandable."
Bowen insists that he had no doubts about staying on after winning over the fans last season after a bumpy start.
At times it appeared as though Bowen was carrying the side single-handedly and he only missed one league match all season - an astonishing feat given that he had lumps kicked out of him each week by some of the Nationwide South bruisers.
"Despite our problems last year, I have enjoyed it at Newport and am happy to stay on," Bowen said.
"After a few ups and plenty of downs it is great to have the support behind me and picking up the fans' player of the year award was nice.
"I got a bit of stick around Christmas, but I think some fans thought that I should be beating half a team and then scoring and it is not that easy when you get the ball on the half way line.
"You have to get the ball in the right areas and we started doing that as the season went on."
He added: "The players and also me personally are determined to have a good season.
"We saw the amount of fans that came at the start and at the end of last season and we know that the players are the only ones who can give them something to shout about.
"We can't go making the same noises as last year but hopefully we can get off to a good start and build from there."
Meanwhile County are still locked in negotiations with striker Cortez Belle and several others, with an outcome on Belle expected early next week.
