SUPER-TOUGH firefighter and mixed martial arts champion Sabrina Cohen is preparing to compete in a professional bout.

The fighter, 22, of St Brides, Newport, recently took on 101 men during two-minute rounds in the first event of its kind in the UK.

Sabrina took the fighters on one-by-one - and won each round.

Now she is in training to take on Cheri Buck, a world muay Thai champion, a form of Thai boxing, in a professional mixed martial arts bout - and she's feeling quietly confident.

She said: "I am really looking forward to it and feeling confident."

The fighter is being sponsored by an American company, scientificstreetfighting.com, and Sabrina is the first woman the firm has sponsored.

Sabrina said: "I am so grateful that scientificstreetfighting have sponsored me. It is such an opportunity and means all my kit is paid for and I will get to fight in America later this year."

The girls will be fighting each other in three, five-minute rounds with only a gum shield for protection against head blows.

Knockout, submission or a judge's decision will decide the winner.

"I hope to win by submission - it takes skill to submit your opponent, not just a lucky knockout blow," she said.

Arduous training sessions of five-hours-a-day, five-days-a-week has become the norm for the Pontypool-based fire fighter. She said: "I have been working with my coach, nutritionist and weight coach, Alecks Georgisev - Hawk from Gladiators - and have been sparring."

Watch the fighter in action at Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre on May 21.

Booked tickets cost £15 or £18 on the door. Call 01562 746447 or visit www.grappleandstrike.com for more information.
