NEWPORT County have snapped up goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan on a two year contract - and are 99 per cent certain big names Jason Bowen and Cortez Belle will also sign on the dotted line.
Discussions with Bowen and Belle are ongoing but the highly rated Vaughan becomes manager John Cornforth's first move of the summer.
The former Willenhall stopper joined County on loan in March and impressed and is described by Cornforth as "the best young goalkeeper I have seen."
"It is great news that Nathan has signed and it was important that we got him on a contract because league clubs have already shown an interest in him," Cornforth said.
"He is the best young 'keeper I have seen and did tremendous for us towards the end of the year.
"I am interested in players who fit in not just on the pitch but off it and Nathan has a tremendous attitude and more than fits the bill.
"Andrew Delve (who Vaughan replaced in goal) is a young lad and was excellent for us last season. He will remain at the club and fight it out with Nathan for the goalkeeper's jersey."
As well as continuing talks with Bowen and Belle, Cornforth has already held talks with up to seven players he wants on board for next season.
"The season might be over but I have been working my socks off for next season," Cornforth said. "With no games I can get stuck in and spend all of my time talking to potential players.
"I hope to have the backbone of next season's side in place as soon as possible." Meanwhile Cornforth has spoken of his delight in seeing County's youngsters lift the FAW Youth Cup at Ninian Park on Wednesday night.
"It was fantastic for the kids and I am very pleased for Glyn Jones and his staff," he said. "It was a tremendous performance from them and as a former Swansea captain, it was great to see them turn over Cardiff.
"There are several of this group who will play a part for us next season."
