FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze under Newport's Southern Distributor Road bridge last night.
Flames could be seen from the M4 as the fire crew battled to extinguish the blaze which was centred on two oil drums which had caught fire.
A spokesman said no one was injured during the fire, which is believed to have been set deliberately.
The fire did not spread to any nearby buildings. Firefighters were called at 8.15pm and had put out the blaze by 8.31pm.
