STICK with one coach for some time, Percy Montgomery urged Newport Gwent Dragons after what turned out to be his farewell appearance at Rodney Parade last night.
The Dragons crashed out of the Celtic Cup, suffering their heaviest home defeat when they were hammered 49-19 by Llanelli Scarlets.
That made it the final show for Montgomery (pictured) and he made this plea: "You have got to stick with one coach, that's when you get the best results.
"The Crusaders have had the same team for the last four or five years, for example. But here, unfortunately, Mike Ruddock left when you can only imagine the results we might have had this season if we had kept him.
"Hopefully, they can sort it out because it's a big problem, it's unfair, it's stuffing the players by getting one coach a year when each coach is telling them what to do."
Montgomery also urges the Dragons to improve their facilities.
"Its been great here, but the next time I come I hope they have better facilities at the club for training," he said.
"They should sell half the ground and put up a proper stadium and make it a nice place for players to train.
"Look at our gym, it's not top class compared with what the Ospreys have and with those at the Vale of Glamorgan. We need them here because that would be a huge advantage."
Monty admitted: "It's been a bit disappointing this season with all the people departing, which takes its toll, but that's still no excuse and you've just got to carry on.
"Llanelli Scarlets played really well, they were more aggressive in the tackle and we made too many mistakes."
Dragons captain Jason Forster apologised to the fans for last night's dismal perfomance.
"It was a very disappointing end to the season, but you can't afford to give them 20 points start," he said.
"We didn't get any phases going, we showed glimpses but it wasn't enough, you've got to play the full 80 minutes.
"We expected better and I would apologise to the fans for shipping 40-odd points, we don't usually do that, but we've got world class players here and hopefully we'll have more continuity next season."
