Devon is one of the best preserved areas of Britain.

With its green hills and Jurassic coasts, it is no surprise Devon has inspired writers such as the Romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, a Devonian himself.

Devon County Show offers an opportunity to travel to these beautiful landscapes, as well as a getaway from the rush of modern life. The agricultural show - one of the most popular in Britain - will this year run between Thursday, May 19 and Saturday, May 21, in Westpoint, Exeter.

As well as a journey to the heart of English heritage, Devon County Show is a three dimensional billboard for rural life in Devon.

From sheep shearing to honey making, the event aims to show different aspects of farm life and introduce farm animals to the general public, as well as presenting prize livestock in a Grand Parade.

During the three days of the fair, racing events will be organised with dogs, ferrets, and horses. Horse enthusiasts will also find horse showing classes and classic show jumping.

Other favourite attractions include archery and army demonstrations, marching bands with performances from H.M. Band of the Royal Marines and H.M. Devon & Dorset Regiment Band and a flower and garden show.

The 110-year-old event will take the visitor on a journey back in time to the fierce Middle Ages with a thrilling demonstration of jousts from the Knights of Powderham Castle.

On a more modern note, expect an impressive display of driving and acrobatic skills on motor cycles from the White Helmets team of the Royal Corps of Signals as well as demonstrations of steam engines.

Finally, no fair would be complete without food. The best of British food and drink will be on offer, prepared by top local chefs. All the ingredients are brought together for a grand day out in the countryside.
