THERE are many factors that affect a rider's ability to maintain a high level of concentration. The weather is one, and inappropriate riding equipment is another. When the body is cold, or unbearably hot, the mind is constantly being diverted from its primary task of concentrating on the road. Control becomes less certain and riding less safe. In an ideal world, motorcyclists would have every creature comfort. In the real world, man's ingenuity is often the only solution.
Experienced, all-weather motorcyclists are invariably trailblazers. They ride the most suitable bikes and wear the safest and most appropriate clothing. It is no coincidence that BMW Rider Equipment is a preferred choice for committed riders of many different brands of machine. It is for these and other discerning riders that BMW has introduced the Streetguard 2 riding suit.
The stylish and versatile all-seasons combo is innovative, attractive and highly efficient. Comfort, protection and style are just three of the characteristics afforded by the integration of 3-layer GORE-TEX(r) XCR laminate and BMW TFL Cool System technology. It also means that riders can wear a fabric suit all-year round and be appropriately equipped for anything the environment might throw at them. BMW's TFL Cool System prevents the Streetguard 2 from overheating by reflecting sunlight and maintaining a controlled inner climate - even in suits of dark colours. A temperature 12 per cent lower than conventional garments has been measured.
In opposite conditions, such as heavy rain, the GORE-TEX(r) XCR (extended comfort range) laminate has active breathing properties 25 per cent better than its predecessor. This allows water to disperse faster, thereby minimising accumulative cold and weight (from moisture), and enabling the garments to dry extremely quickly. Further control over climatic conditions is provided by a removable storm collar and detachable thermal padding in the jacket and trousers.
As part of the BMW Rider Equipment collection, the Streetguard 2 can be seen at any BMW Motorrad dealership. The jacket costs £475 and comes in black and stone grey while the trousers are £345 and are available in any colour providing it is black. There are 40 sizes available in mens and women's cuts.
