MORE Hollywood blockbusters could go to a quiet corner of the Gwent valleys following the success of a cult sci-fi film, a spokeswoman for the local screen commission says.
We revealed last year how the adaptation of Douglas Adams landmark novel, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, was partly filmed in Trefil quarry, Blaenau Gwent.
The movie, which stars Bill Nighy, Mos Def and Martin Freeman, is currently being screened to packed out cinemas all across Britain.
Trefil became the home of the hated Vogons who demolish Earth to make way for a space by-pass.
Film-makers wanted a desolate backdrop to depict the planet Vogon and plumped for Trefil quarry the moment they set eyes on it.
The woman who helped bring the film to Wales said there has been much interest from film companies in this sleepy part of Gwent.
Penny Skuse, the information manager of the South East Wales office of the Wales Screen Commission, said: "It's fabulous as a film location because it has such a diverse landscape.
"Depending on the weather, it can be very bleak but when the sun is out it's glorious and is like some of the open plains of America.
"Furthermore, because there are no pylons in sight you can use it for whatever location is needed.
"I'm sure Trefil will be used again because it is amazing and looks great in the film."
