YOUNG footballers from Real Bettws were thrilled to finish second in their tour tournament in Weymouth.
A draw, a loss and two wins took the Newport-based under-9s side to the semi-finals where they beat Weyford 1-0.
But in the final they lost 2-0 to Winforth. Proud Real Bettws mum Katrina Witheridge said: "To be fair, we expected to lose badly. It was brilliant.
"The boys started to do very well and they were very surprised and chuffed by the crowd's cheers."
The delighted runners-up were photographed with former Leeds United and Bradford City player Chris Kamara.
Katrina Witheridge admitted the children recognised him more because of his television commentaries than for his football career.
Real Bettws Under-9s have been playing together for nearly two years, training just one hour a week under coaches and dads Simon Witheridge, Chris Rees and John Grant.
