AT GPF Gallery, George Street, Newport, until May 21, is an exhibition entitled Reflections of Landscape, by Newport- born artist Andrew Lumborg.
Andrew states that he was influenced by the work of painters from the American Abstract Expressionist period, which began in New York in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
Much of his work is a personal response to the experience of landscape. In some pieces the landscape reference is directly apparent, whereas in others it is more difficult to spot.
The latter category of work is often concerned more with feelings evoked by landscape than by its immediate visual impact, and is usually referred to as 'abstract'. Such work may also refer to the feelings evoked by living in the modern world in general. Andrew continues: "My motivation for producing the work is love of life, landscape and painting and the desire to make a statement that stands the test of time."
GPF Gallery is dedicated to promoting original contemporary work of excellence by both up-and-coming and renowned artists from Wales and beyond.
