A 15-YEAR-OLD boy was arrested by detectives today investigating a sex assault on a boy aged six.
Residents of Cwmfel-infach were left reeling after learning about the alleged assault on the little boy.
Gwent Police are still investigating the alleged incident, which is said to have happened between 4pm and 5pm on Tuesday.
The boy was in a children's playground at the rear of Mill Street when he was approached by a male.
It is alleged he was then taken a short distance to an area near the river, where the attack took place.
Cwmfelinfach councillor Don Cullen said yesterday that people living in the area were "very shocked" by the news.
"This is a quiet area where people let their children play outside. We have just had a new playground put in here," he said.
"This sort of thing upsets everybody and people are talking about it a lot." He added, however, that he hoped people would not panic and prevent their children from playing outside.
"We must leave this to the professionals now," he added. Gwent Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the young boy in the playground or leaving with another male to come forward. They are also appealing for any older men who may have been in the park at the same time to contact them, as they may have important information, or be witnesses.
And they particularly want to hear from any people in the vicinity who were canvassing, delivering newspapers or leaflets at that time.
Anyone with information should contact Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
