THIS is how Newport's new swimming pool will look when it opens early next year.
Council bosses say that work on the £5m project is on schedule to open to the public in January 2006.
Newport-based Midas Construction is carrying out the work on the 35,000 square foot facility, which will boast:
a 25-metre, eight-lane pool with moveable floor a 20-metre teaching/training pool changing facilities spectator seating wheelchair viewing area fitness suite club/meeting room
The pool is the latest joint funded project at the Newport International Sports Village.
The site is already home to the Wales National Velodrome, tennis centre and cricket centre.
Its athletics stadium doubles up as the home of Newport County football club.
A council spokesman said: "It is great to see the South Wales Regional Swimming Pool taking shape and we look forward to its opening next year.
"The Newport International Sports Village boasts facilities that are second to none and the new Southern Distributor Road means that people can get quick and easy access to some of the best sports facilities in the country."
