Review: Be Cool (12A)

IT has been a bad few weeks for sequels and no more so than this follow-up to the 1995 hit Get Shorty.

That enjoyable thriller saw Miami debt collector Chili Palmer (Travolta) discovering that his true talents lay as a successful film producer.

But ten years on and Chili is bored of the movies and decides the music industry is more fun.

Reuniting Travolta with his co-star from Pulp Fiction, Uma Thurman, who plays a record label owner, Chili tries to make an unknown singer/songwriter Linda Moon (Christina Milian) a big star.

Taking on a host of gangsta rappers, Russian mobsters and her crooked manager Vince Vaughn, Chili finds things aren't as easy he thought they might be.

There are plenty of star cameos and even a rehash of Travolta and Thurman's dance routine from Tarantino's masterpiece.

The Rock delivers a few laughs as a gay bodyguard but on the whole the thing is all a bit of a mess.

Be Cool is more likely to leave you feeling cold as the tumbleweeds blow through the cinema.
