THE search is on for Newport businesses to show their support for what is planned to become the most glamorous event in this city's calendar.
Organisers of Miss Newport 2005 competition say that is not so much a beauty pageant, but the perfect opportunity for the new city of Newport to show off.
"We want this to be the epitome of youth and of glamour, and a metaphor for the new vibrancy and regeneration of the city of Newport," said Ceri Jones, director of organisers Zero One.
"For so long we have been in the shadow of Swansea and Cardiff, but we see this as an opportunity to fight back and show them that we are second best to no one."
The event organisers are looking for Newport businesses who wish to take an active role in the event. "Any business should see this as a unique vehicle to associate themselves with the best of Newport, the future of Newport, and to promote themselves to the entire young adult Newport market," said Ceri.
"From a hospitality perspective, we can also offer every business partner an exceptional and glamorous VIP night for them, their preferred staff or clients.
"This can be a huge event, but it really is up to the city whether or not this competition becomes everything it can be. We have put together a selection of packages for businesses, and the amount they wish to benefit is really up to them."
The Miss Newport 2005 competition is set to run throughout April, with a Grand VIP Finals to be on Saturday, May 7.
