NEWPORT County boss John Cornforth has challenged his players to go out and grab six points over the Bank Holiday weekend and ease their Nationwide South relegation worries.

County take on Hayes tomorrow at Spytty Park (kick-off 3pm) and are away to Sutton United on Monday and Cornforth feels that his recently bolstered squad can emerge victorious from both.

"If we go out and get six points, it would give us a great boost and drag us away from the bottom," Cornforth said.

"More teams are getting pulled into the relegation battle and if we get a couple of wins it will make a huge difference.

"I said to them last week that they can go out and win their remaining games and I believe that we have the players that can do that.

"Of course we take things game by game but I have challenged them to go the rest of the games unbeaten."

Cornforth has some decisions to make regards to his line-up after the quadruple signings last week, a situation that he has not enjoyed for the majority of his time at the club.

"For the first time since I came here I have got a side to pick rather than cobble one together from who is available," he said.

"We have players like Gethyn Jones and Jamie Moralee who did not make the starting line-up last week (in the 1-0 victory at Weymouth) and we are starting to look like a real team.

"Teams will not enjoy facing the likes of Cortez Belle, Chris Curran and Jeff Eckhardt as there is a much better physical look to the side."

Cornforth won't be taking Hayes lightly, they dished out a 3-1 hammering to County earlier in the season which contributed to the sacking of former manager Peter Nicholas. despite the fact that they have hit a poor run of form.

Hayes have only won one of their last seven matches and fallen out of the play-off race and now sit nine points ahead of County with a game in hand.

"They are on the back of a poor performance last week but that doesn't mean anything," Cornforth said. "I am more concerned about what we do."

The manager revealed that he is still looking to add to his squad, with a left back and a midfielder high on his list of targets ahead of the weekend.

The left back issue could tell as Scott Morgan is struggling to make the side after limping off last week although Lee Phillips is a better bet to shrug off his calf strain.

County: Vaughan, L Phillips, Morgan, Eckhardt, D Jones, Thomas, Curran, Morris, G Jones, Williams, Davies, Bowen, Belle, Moralee, Tyrell, Harrhy, Hooper, Delve.
