THE last time Cwmbran mum Susan Gurden completed a charity trek she tackled the Great Wall of China with a broken foot and nose.
Now Mrs Gurden is planning to trek through the Rift Valley in Africa and is hoping things will go a little smoother. This time she will also have her two daughters by her side.
Mrs Gurden, 53, is going to trek 100 miles through the Rift Valley in Tanzania and Kenya in September with daughters Cariad, 23, and Lois, 17.
She hopes to raise £2,500 for ActionAid International, a charity that works to fight global poverty.
Her previous 70-mile charity trek for ActionAid in 2001 got off to a bad start when Mrs Gurden fell down the stairs and broke her nose and foot during training.
She said: "It was just a bit of bad luck I suppose. But I thought I had to work through the pain and get on with the trek."
The Great Wall Trek was tough, and Mrs Gurden fell on her knees on the first day, needing help from her Chinese guides to battle through the pain.
But she completed the trek and is determined to go ahead with her African adventure.
She said: "I have to go."
Mrs Gurden is planning a series of fundraising activities to help her raise £2,500 sponsorship.
She said: "It's great my daughters are doing this with me, it will probably be a life-changing experience for them."
"You get a real sense of achievement raising all that money," she said.
