TEENAGERS in Gwent have been engineering successes in the world of work.

A group of up to 50 secondary school pupils from Newport, Blackwood and Pontypool visited TRW Automotive in Pontypool to learn about engineering and the world of work.

The pupils used machinery and worked in the workshops. They developed their skills in CV writing and applying for jobs.

Phillip Diamond, from Careers Wales, said the students were learning life skills in a working environment.

The pupils will receive a certificate and a bottle opener which they made on a Saturday morning.

The pupils were given an identity card and were treated like a new starters at the company. They were shown how to behave.

Mr Diamond said: "This has been running now for several years and we hope that we will be able to keep it going year after year so that the pupils will be able to continue to benefit from the project and the experience they gain."
