HARLEY-DAVIDSON expands its model offerings in 2005 with the dirt-track inspired Sportster XL 883R, a limited edition 15th Anniversary Fat Boy and the all-new VRSCR Street Rod.
"Custom motorcycles are our passion," said Bill Davidson, Harley-Davidson director of marketing and motorcycle product development. "And that passion has inspired the evocative styling and performance of these three new motorcycles and reflects the spirit of Harley-Davidson." Each of these new Harley-Davidson motorcycles provides an unmistakable statement of style and carves its own niche, while remaining totally true to the unmistakable heritage of its model range.
Highlights of the 2005 Sportster XL 883R The 2005 Sportster XL 883R pays tribute to the famed Harley-Davidson XR dirt track racers with its purposeful, race-inspired styling elements. Most noticeable are the blacked-out Evolution powertrain and authentic, racing-inspired 883R graphics on the classic 12.9 litre 'peanut' fuel tank. A staggered 'shorty' dual exhaust system and dual front disc brakes reflect the 883R's competitive DNA. Blacked-out components like fork lowers, headlight cover, handlebars, air cleaner cover and rear shock springs enhance its distinct style.
Like all 2005 model year Sportsters, the 883R offers uncompromised comfort and handling thanks to its redesigned-in-2004 Evolution engine that's rubber-mounted to a stronger, more rigid frame. Highlights of the limited edition 15th Anniversary FLSTFI Fat Boy. For 15 years the Fat Boy has ruled the heavyweight cruiser class by blending classic hardtail styling with a heart-pounding V-Twin engine and modern riding comfort. The 15th Anniversary Fat Boy celebrates the model's journey with an extra helping of chrome, performance and style.
The Fat Boy's signature solid disc wheels have been chromed to make an even more powerful custom statement. The two colour options - Vivid Black and Brilliant Silver - are complemented by a matched paint scheme on its counterbalanced V-Twin motor. The 24K gold-plated tank emblem, Badlander-inspired seat, anniversary edition air cleaner and timing covers and bespoke ignition switch plate all ensure this motorcycle has a special place in the Fat Boy 'Hall of Fame'.
Driving the point home is a beefed-up, fuel-injected 1550cc Twin Cam 95 engine producing 99Nm of torque at 4250rpm. The engine is counterbalanced and solid-mounted to deliver the Softail's tightly-framed, timeless style and strong roll-on power with just the right amount of feed back to the rider.
Highlights of the VRSCR Street Rod The latest member of the groundbreaking VRSC range sets a new standard and bold direction in the Roadster category by combining street custom styling and performance in equal measure. The new Roadster is decidedly more aggressive by incorporating an upright riding position, 40-degree lean angle, improved engine performance and tuned suspension.
