A BUILDING business founded in Raglan in the 1980s has been voted the fourth-best small company to work for in Britain.
Castleoak Construction specialises in the building of care homes and supported accommodation for the elderly. Its headquarters is now at Cardiff Gate.
Now boasting a turnover of around £20m and a staff of 53, the business was started in the back-bedroom of a Raglan home by brothers Mel and Colwyn Knight.
Mel said: "We"ve always sought to put people first and to create a culture of teamwork, trust and respect where everyone feels valued. To discover that we are succeeding in this, and to have it recognised externally, is fantastic. But the award belongs to every member of our team as they make Castleoak a great place to work."
Run by the Sunday Times, the best company to work for survey measures feedback from staff.
Castleoak scored top marks for keeping its staff invigorated with just 10% saying they were bored with the work they did.
More than 90% of staff believed in their company"s principles and 91% expressed confidence in the leadership skills of the management team.
Eighty-six per cent expressed a positive sense of well-being - the best in its survey.
Castleoak received a special award for its community support programme which allocates more than £10,000 each year to charity.
