THOUSANDS of pounds were raised for charity in an event graced by one of the greatest soul vocalists of all time.
Nearly 500 people gathered at a fundraiser at the Celtic Manor on Saturday night to see Dionne Warwick belt out hits like Do You Know the Way to San Jose? and Alfie.
The event, organised by businessman Alan Darlow, was held to raise money for the Rhys Daniels Trust, which strives to provide on-site accommodation for the parents of children in hospital.
After securing accommodation at hospitals in Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol and London, the appeal is trying to do the same for the children"s hospital in Cardiff.
Shaun Williamson, who played Barry in EastEnders, was compere for the night and actress Pauline Quirke, the charity"s vice-patron, also turned up.
Local girl group String Mania and an auction, which featured a new car and a diamond necklace, also provided entertainment.
Mr Darlow said: "We were delighted with how it all went. People have been ringing me since the event to say how much they enjoyed it.
"Dionne Warwick was excellent as were String Mania who received a standing ovation for their turn."
He added: "We don"t know how much we have raised yet but hopefully it will be around £20,000 net.
"The reason why we chose to help this particular charity this year was because they are helping the children"s hospital in Cardiff. It is a very good cause."
