FROM robot wars to Roman baths, National Science Week is an opportunity for adults and children to discover the past, look to the future and learn more about Wales' diverse environment.

During the week, which runs from March 11 to 20, there are a series of days out in South Wales to keep you and your family entertained.

National Museum and Gallery, Cardiff are hosting Down by the Riverside, a weekend for those with a passion for the outdoors.

There are family talks and activities to explore what lives in and around the rivers of Wales.

You can create your own river, pan for gold, look at freshwater insects or unearth less well-known riverside creatures, including otters and voles. Find out why some species must be protected and why our rivers are increasingly likely to flood.

The Roman Legionary Museum, Caerleon are holding Roman Science Saturdays, on March 13 and 20, from 11am to 4pm.

Discover how the Romans lived with a great chance to enter the world of Roman technology.

You can build a Roman arch and learn how they heated their homes and inside the remains of the fortress at Caerleon lies the most complete amphitheatre in Britain.

Seen the TV series Robot Wars? Now you can see the mechanical monsters for real. Take part in live interactive robotic activities, program a robot and compete against others in the Techniquest arena. Visitors can also bring along their remote-controlled toys and battle it out for the championship title.
